Andrew Frawley of Australia beat a formidable field including two former world champions and national team bowlers to emerge champion in the Open Division of this year’s Ramadan Bowling Scratch Tournament at Dubai Bowling Centre.
Frawley rolled a 10-game series of 2322 in the finals to clinch the title, consistently bowling high scores padded by his opening salvo of a 300 perfect game. The Aussie is presently Head Coach of Kuwait National Bowling Team.
UAE’s former world champion Mohammed Al Qubaisi placed second, followed by Mahmood Al Attar also of the UAE national bowling team. Qubaisi was also in great form, scoring a 2302 series which was 20 points shy from the leader. His best score of 280 in the final game was not enough to cover the difference between him and the triumphant Aussie.
The third place was taken by Mahmood Al Attar, who scored 2230, followed by Fuad Almas and Hussain Al Suwaidi, all from the UAE.
The Men’s Graded Division was dominated by Jaber Othman of the UAE throughout the tournament to claim the top spot. Close on his heels was Mohammed Al Mulla also of the UAE, who rolled a series of 1990. Faisal Obaid took the third place with a series of 1923, followed by Faizal Aziz of Dubai Duty Free and Saqr Mohammad of the UAE in 5th place.
Minda Meneses finished first in the women’s division with a series of 1911, followed by Uella Marcial as she hit a total of 1884 for second place. Malu Fornari took third place with a series of 1832, while Elsie Marcial finished 4th by a mere point behind.
Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners courtesy of Major Sponsors Dubai Duty Free and Damas, along with Support Sponsors UAE Exchange and Al Wasl Travels.
